There’s a rising high school girls basketball power in Las Vegas. Del Sol is quickly becoming one of the top programs in all of Nevada and it made national headlines with its latest win.
Last Wednesday on Dec. 10, the Dragons improved to 10-0 on the season with an unbelievable 104-1 victory over Cheyenne. They allowed the lone free throw in the first quarter.
Del Sol shot 60 percent from the field in the win, per MaxPreps. It put up 43 points in the first quarter and coasted from there on offense. The defense, clearly, didn’t waver.
Senior guard Ricana Taylor led the way with 30 points on 14-21 shooting. She also finished with 14 steals, six assists and three rebounds. Sophomore Ge Ge Pickens had 22 points on 11-13 shooting and added eight steals and four boards. The Dragons racked up 47 steals in total.
Senior Morgan White, junior Yaremi Alvarez and sophomore Laylah-Rae Davis all finished with 10 points a piece. Senior Angelina Sandoval added nine points, six steals, five assists and a rebound.
Del Sol has been dominant, though last week’s win was especially lopsided. In its first nine games of the season, it won by an average of 30.1 points. Its tightest game of the season came in the game prior to the Cheyenne shellacking when it beat Cimarron Memorial 51-34. That’s the only game of the season where the Dragons haven’t reached 60 points.
They currently rank as the No. 13 team in the state, per the Rivals Composite Rankings. They now have a bit of a break and aren’t scheduled to be back in action until Dec. 26, when they take on Fountain Valley (Calif.) in the first game of the Gator Winter Classic in Henderson, Nev.
