The Iowa high school state softball tournament began on Monday from Rogers Park in Fort Dodge, Iowa, as the biggest classifications took to the diamond in quarterfinal round matchups.

Here are some of the key individual performances from the first day of action at the Iowa high school state softball tournament:

Class 4A

  • Emma Eeekhoff, Pella: Eeekhoff hit a solo home run, doubled and struck out eight as the Dutch stunned No. 1 Cedar Rapids Xavier, 5-1
  • Elah Hiemstra, Pella: Hiemstrad drove in a pair of runs as the Dutch earned a spot in the state semifinals.
  • Braylen Conlon, Cedar Rapids Xavier: In a losing effort, Conlon recorded 13 strikeouts.
  • Lauren Hagedorn, ADM: Hagedorn hit a game-tying solo home run and struck out eight with four hits allowed in a nine-inning, 4-1 win.
  • Jenah Gray, Dallas Center-Grimes: In a loss in nine, Gray hit a solo home run.
  • Aubrey Toohey, North Scott: Toohey had three hits as the Lancers secured a spot in the semifinals, also stealing a base.
  • Tessa Dillinger, North Polk: Dillinger plated the game-winning run in the ninth, driving in a pair.
  • Larissa Koth, North Polk: Koth was 2-for-4 with three RBI, helping the Comets reach the semifinals.
  • Evelynn Koopmann, Western Dubuque: Koopmann had two doubles and scored twice in a loss to North Polk.

Class 5A

  • Sophia Schlader, Waukee Northwest: The freshman set a 5A, single-game record with 15 strikeouts, allowing just four hits in a 4-0 win over Dowling Catholic.
  • Shay Davis, Waukee Northwest: The No. 9 hitter was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored.
  • Mady Ott, Ankeny Centennial: Ott hit a solo home run, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBI and a two runs scored as the Jaguars topped West Des Moines Valley, 9-0 in five.
