The anticipation is palpable in Austin as the Texas Longhorns prepare to return to the football field on Aug 30. They open their season with a high-stakes rematch against defending national champion Ohio State in Columbus. The Buckeyes ended Texas' season in the College Football Playoff semifinal a little more than seven months ago.

The game also will mark the first Week 1 start of former five-star quarterback Arch Manning’s career with the Longhorns. While he has made a few midseason appearances over the past two seasons as Quinn Ewers’ backup, this will be his first time entering a season as the clear-cut starter. What better stage than one of the most anticipated matchups of the college football season?

Following the SEC media days in Atlanta this week, the conference made several announcements, including the results of the conference media's preseason poll. Not surprisingly, Texas was gathered media members' choice to win the SEC title in its second season in the conference.

The league also released the All-SEC preseason teams, and one selection stood out: Arch Manning earned a spot on the All-SEC preseason third team, trailing LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier (second team) and South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers (first team).

There are certainly many who are high on Arch Manning. He’s a former five-star recruit. He was the No. 1 overall prospect in the Class of 2023. He comes from a legendary football lineage as the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning and the grandson of Archie Manning.

“I’m not sure how they get these opinions, I’ve only played what, two games," Manning told reporters at SEC media days. "It’s nice of them to say, but it doesn’t mean anything. Talk is cheap; I gotta go prove it."
