Windsor looked even better than its No. 2 preseason ranking, destroying Green Mountain on the road in a Colorado 3A high school football showdown.
Windsor may have looked even better than its No. 2 preseason ranking in the Colorado high school football preseason coaches poll.
Sure, that may sound like hyperbole.
But it's hard not to be effusive about the Wizards after a 55-0 drubbing of No. 6 Green Mountain in the 2025 season opener Aug. 28 at Lakewood's Trailblazer Stadium.
Windsor had a running clock going by halftime, scored in every phase of the game and pitched a shutout behind a dominant defense.
After an opening 3-and-out, Windsor scored the next seven times it touched the ball.
Mason Moore had a rushing and receiving score, Junior Trotter tossed two touchdown passes and Adrian Czyszczon added another rushing TD. The Wizards moved the ball at will behind a powerful offensive line led by John Stephens and Oklahoma commit Deacon Schmitt.
Drew Miller had a pick-six interception touchdown, and Windsor's defense only allowed Green Mountain to cross midfield twice in nine possessions.
The dominance extended to special teams, too. Grady Sullivan returned a punt over 50 yards for a touchdown and Devonte Fontana took the second-half opening kickoff more than 90 yards to the house. Fontana also added a long receiving score.
Windsor has made the quarterfinals (4A and then 3A) and won 10 games in each of the past two seasons.
But these Wizards may be on a different level, especially if this season-opening statement is any indication.
Next up for Windsor is the home opener vs. Longmont (Sept. 5, 7 p.m.).
