There are going to be a ton of recruits in Ohio Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
Just over 24 hours and it’s here. Buckeye football is nearly back, and the wait has been long enough. Looking to continue their success from their national championship season, Ohio State has a ton of talent back and yet even more new faces that will be relied on this entire season at positions of major importance. However, that won’t be the only talent on display on Saturday in The Horsehoe.
While the coaches and staff turn their attention to the game on the field, recruiting is never not in season, and the Buckeyes will be welcoming an inordinate number of high-profile recruits to Columbus tomorrow.
Mater Dei defensive back making the trek to see Ohio State
High school football-wise, you’re probably not going to find a better program than California’s Mater Dei. A prep powerhouse in every facet, the Buckeyes (and every other major college program) know the quality of player that comes out of the school each year. Ohio State is fortunate to have two players from Mater Dei in its current 2026 class, and the staff is hoping this foot in the door becomes a pipeline in any capacity moving forward.
Receivers Chris Henry Jr. and Kayden Dixon-Wyatt have helped Ohio State to become a common presence in Mater Dei, and other players are taking notice. Sharing his plans on social media yesterday, the Buckeyes will be hosting another Mater Dei talent when 2027 defensive back Danny Lang is on site for the opener against Texas.
A 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete, Lang is the No. 229 player nationally and the 29th best cornerback per the 247Sports Composite grades. Maybe not the highest of rankings, but you can throw that sentiment out when you look not only at his offer list. When you take into consideration the opponents that Mater Dei goes against, having one of the toughest schedules in the country year in and year out, it is clear that there is clear upside with Lang.
He has nearly 30 offers to his name, and Ohio State is joined by Alabama, Florida, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, USC, and plenty of others to be in the mix. A trip on his own dime, the Buckeyes clearly have Lang’s attention, and having two teammates locked in with Ohio State already is certainly that should only help the Buckeyes in their pursuit of landing more.
Buckeyes lock in big-time guest for future home game
Certainly, much of the attention in recruiting lately has been on the guest list for this Texas game. So much talent is going to be on campus this weekend that it’s hard to keep track of all the top prospects that will be on hand. However, it is not the only major home game for the Buckeyes this year; yesterday, news came that a major recruit would be on campus to see Ohio State host Penn State on Nov. 1.
The No. 44 player nationally and fifth-best offensive tackle in the 2028 class per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Kweli Fielder has his visit locked in with Ohio State. A 6-foot-4, 310-pound tackle, Fielder boasts over 20 offers to his name this early on in his recruitment. With three more prep years, it’s wild to think about how polished he can be coming out of high school when the time comes. Ohio State is one of the many programs to offer already; it doesn’t take a whole lot of convincing to see why.
Other schools to offer include the likes of Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Penn State, Tennessee, and a host of others, so clearly the quality of player he is can be seen from his offer list alone. Getting a head start in regard to the Buckeyes, however, can be an advantage in leaving a lasting impression, and coming for Penn State, that environment should be memorable.
Always a position of need in every recruiting cycle, Tyler Bowen is wasting no time showing Fielder he could be a priority target in this class, and with a game day visit already in the plans, the Buckeyes are in a solid position early on.
Quick Hits:
High school football is also back in full swing, and the Buckeyes once again have some of the best prep players in the country committed to their 2026 class. Watching the future of the roster pile up the success this season, New Jersey native Jordan Thomas is already turning heads with his play all over the field early on.
Named player of the game for his latest contest, the No. 165 player nationally and 16th best cornerback per the 247Sports Composite grades, is showing why the Buckeyes were so high on him, and rightfully so. Making plays on defense and special teams, Ohio State looks to have another star in the making coming from the Garden State, and those types of efforts are exactly what this staff covets when recruiting their big board of priorities.
