Just one game into his season, Missouri quarterback Sam Horn left Thursday’s game due to an injury. Appearing to be a lower-body one, Horn left the game after getting tackled on a designed run play. Not what anybody in Columbia wanted to start the year.
As Missouri looks to close out a blowout victory against Central Arkansas, Horn was spotted in a full leg cast inside the tunnel. An official update has not been provided yet, likely waiting until Eli Drinkwitz‘s postgame press conference. But not a positive sign thus far.
“Update: #Mizzou QB Sam Horn was spotted in a full leg cast in the tunnel,” Zach Sweet of Missourian Sportssaid via X. “He was hit low on a 6-yard rush in the first half, went to the tent, then limped to the locker room. He did not return to the sideline before halftime.
Horn didn’t see any action last season due to a different injury. His future with the team was uncertain after he heard his name called in the MLB Draft in July. However, Drinkwitz confirmed Horn will be on the team this fall.
Unfortunately, there is another ailment for him to deal with moving forward. His long-term status will be a question moving forward, especially considering who Missouri has next up on the schedule.
More on Missouri quarterback situation
Back in July at SEC Media Days, Drinkwitz revealed what they are looking for in a quarterback. The program is having to play without Brady Cook for the first time since 2022. More than anything, the goal is to make sure a reliable player is back there for Mizzou.
“We don’t need a celebrity quarterback,” Drinkwitz said. “We need somebody who, when the game is on the line, he’s going to make the best decision for our team. He’s going to take care of the football.
“He’s going to get our team in the end zone. It’s not about stats. It’s about production… Who learns the best from mistakes, right? You can’t consistently make the same mistake at the quarterback position and be the starting quarterback.”
Of course, Missouri will have to get this game against Central Arkansas. But next Saturday is one everyone inside the program has circled. A massive rivalry game is back on the schedule against the Kansas Jayhawks at Faurot Field. Getting a win would be a massive boost before heading into SEC play.
