Dave Doeren finally did a bit of elaborating about the starters and depth chart during his radio show last night, and I did not expect the most surprising revelation to be about the kicker job. I assumed that spot was settled with Kanoah Vinesett back, but not so.

“At [place]kicker, it was a nice competition throughout camp with Kanoah as the lead going into it. But Nick beat him out throughout camp. He just really impressed everybody with his consistency, his distance, his ball height, his ball flight. He has has just really good leg strength about him that puts us in a position to feel good about kicking longer field goals.”

Ball height, ball flight, it’s outta sight!

Nick Konieczynski is a redshirt freshman who did not even merit a player bio in the 2025 media guide, and I have not been able to find a pronunciation guide for his last name. My understanding is that Nick Konie the Homey and Big Nicky Kones are both acceptable usages, though***.

(***Likely untrue.)
