Deion Sanders is still adamant that Colorado will be a better team in 2025 despite the losses of stars Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. The Buffaloes coach has been saying it all offseason and he repeated himself again at a recent press conference.

Asked about how excited he was to see how new players look in Week 1, Deion Sanders responded that he didn’t need to wait and see because he already knew what he had. He also reiterated that, while losing Hunter and Shedeur certainly shouldn’t be understated, he thinks this year’s group is better overall.

“We understand what we have and we’re excited about that,” Sanders said. “We don’t think we lost, we think we gained. Sure, there were a couple athletes that were phenomenal, but I think we have a better team.”

Hunter is coming off of winning the Heisman Trophy this past season as one of the few players in college football history to play both offense and defense. He led the team with 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The do-it-all star also had 36 tackles, four interceptions, 11 passes defended and a forced fumbled on defense. He totaled 2,625 snaps in his two seasons in Boulder, leading the FBS.

Shedeur Sanders was equally impactful, leading the country with a 74% completion rate and leading the Big 12 with 4,134 yards passing and 37 touchdowns. The Buffaloes added Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and four-star freshman Julian Lewis in the QB room, with Salter being named starter on Tuesday. At receiver, Colorado also brings in transfers such as Sincere Brown and Hykeem Williams.

Deion Sanders explained that he feels he has passed every challenge laid out for him so far in his career at Colorado, and proving he can continue his success without his two stars from last year is simply the next up. He is confident he’ll pass that one as well.

“First it was the challenge of coming to this level. Could we change the game? We did,” he said. “Then, can you consistently do it with the players you have, can you win? We did. Now it’s, ‘Can you do it without Travis and Shedeur?’ It’s always gonna be a challenge and I don’t mind that. I stand up to those. I’ve been challenged my whole darn life. But this isn’t about me. This is about the kids we’ve assembled. And we will.”
