Penn State will surely be scouting quarterbacks in the 2027 class this first few weeks of the high school season. However, if all goes to plan, head coach James Franklin and his staff are hopeful those efforts won’t amount to much in the end.
After missing out on Michigan commit Peter Bourque a few weeks ago, it’s no secret that New York native and Cheshire Academy quarterback Keegan Croucher has emerged as the most important 2027 quarterback recruit for position coach Danny O’Brien. Ranked No. 119 nationally in the Industry Rankings and No. 10 overall at the quarterback position, Croucher only earned an offer from Penn State in June, but he’s also visited State College four times throughout his recruitment.
Those consistent visits since June 2024 allowed O’Brien to get a foot in the door before most other schools. Now, after 18 offers, Croucher is down to three programs: Penn State, Ole Miss and Oregon.
“I think they’re all very even,” Croucher told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. “Each school offers something a little different. Can’t wait to watch everyone this fall.”
While Croucher has admitted previously that he could commit at any point, he’s planning to visit all three of those schools this fall, beginning with Ole Miss the weekend of Sept. 27.

“They jumped out right away,” Croucher said about Ole Miss. “I really like their offense a lot. The coaching staff is awesome. They have a top offense every year. Everyone showed great hospitality while I was down there and even when I left. I’m in constant contact with them. I can definitely see myself developing and playing in there program. Really like Ole Miss.”
Sept. 27 just happens to be Penn State’s White Out game. That’s also why the Nittany Lion coaching staff was trying to get Crocuher to visit this upcoming weekend for the season opener against Nevada. However, Croucher starts preseason camp this weekend.
Since most of his games are on Saturday, Penn State will have to wait until Nov. 8 for its game against Indiana to host Croucher again.

“What I like about Penn State a lot is that they build the offense around the quarterback,” Croucher said. “They’ve done a really good job with Drew Allar and his development. I’ve been there four times now and I know a lot of the people in the program. I’m in constant contact with them as well. It is also only a four-hour drive from my hometown.”
When asked about Franklin, Croucher added, “I think the culture he has built there. It’s not for everybody. The guys that he surrounds you with will only make you better. They are a top team year in year out, with a top recruiting class each year. Penn State has done an excellent job in my recruitment. They were one of the first teams that I was In touch with me. Looking forward to this year.”
As for Oregon, Croucher confirmed previously that he plans to fly to Eugene two weeks after his Penn State visit, Nov. 22, to watch the Ducks play USC.
“The offense speaks for itself,” Croucher said. “What they’ve been able to do at the quarterback position is amazing. They have a top quarterback every year. Oregon always brings in a top recruiting class year in year out. I’ve only been there once, but while I was there it was incredible to see everything they have to offer.”
