Eagles' 53-man roster projection: Who's in, who's out after three Sunday afternoon trades

We're looking at an updated Eagles' 53-man roster prediction following Philadelphia's three Sunday afternoon trades

The Eagles are 10 days from opening up the regular season at home against the Dallas Cowboys. With most of the roster set, Philadelphia played one final preseason game at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets on Friday night.

The defense has undergone an overhaul after defensive tackle Milton Williams (New England), Josh Sweat (Arizona), cornerback Darius Slay (Pittsburgh), cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (Minnesota), and linebacker Oren Burks (Cincinnati) all departed via free agency.

This is a deep and talented roster that has added more depth. After watching 12 players depart in free agency, Eagles' GM Howie Roseman added two dynamic SEC linebackers, an All-American pass rusher, three offensive linemen, and an accomplished quarterback from Philadelphia.

The 53-man roster deadline in the NFL is Tuesday, August 27, at 4 p.m. ET. This is the date and time by which all 32 NFL teams must reduce their active rosters to 53 players. The Eagles are always looking to put the best product out on the field, and made three Sunday trades, acquiring a quarterback, an offensive tackle, and sending another valuable backup to the NFC North.

Philadelphia has a loaded roster with few holes or opportunities to steal a starting spot or carve out a key role on offense or defense. That opportunity to steal a roster spot got even more difficult after the Eagles traded for John Metchie.

With the preseason complete, we're examining an updated look at the Eagles Wire 53-man roster predictions.

QB: 3

Jalen Hurts

Tanner McKee

Sam Howell

Philadelphia drafted Kyle McCord in the sixth round. Although Dorian Thompson-Robinson had outplayed him throughout the summer, the former St. Joe's Prep star initially got the nod thanks to a higher upside. Sam Howell's arrival means Philadelphia will either keep four quarterbacks or attempt to get McCord on the practice squad.

RB: 4

Saquon Barkley

Will Shipley

A.J. Dillon

Ben VanSumeren

Toughest cut: Montrell Johnson/ShunDerrick Powell

Will Shipley is Saquon Barkley's backup. Ben VanSumeren will make the roster as a fullback, while Montrell Johnson and ShunDerrick Powell made things challenging.

WR: 6

A.J. Brown

DeVonta Smith

Jahan Dotson

John Metchie

Darius Cooper (undrafted free agent)

Ainias Smith

An undrafted free agent wide receiver out of FCS, Tarleton State, Cooper has been a training camp standout and gets the roster spot after Johnny Wilson suffered a knee injury and was placed on injured reserve. The addition of Metchie made things difficult, and Smith offers more in the return game.

Toughest cut: Terrace Marshall

TE: 3

Dallas Goedert

Grant Calcaterra

Kylen Granson

Goedert is back on a reworked contract, and the Eagles had success moving tight ends on and off the practice squad for game days.

OL: 10

Jordan Mailata

Landon Dickerson

Cam Jurgens

Tyler Steen

Lane Johnson

Fred Johnson

Matt Pryor

Kenyon Green

Laekin Vakalahi -Roster Exempt (practice squad)

Brett Toth

Drew Kendall-Drafted Rookie

Toughest cut: Kendall Lamm

Philadelphia shook things up, trading for Fred Johnson and sending Darian Kinnard to the Packers. Matt Pryor is the biggest winner, while Kendall Lamm is out as the swing tackle.

DL: 5

Jalen Carter

Moro Ojomo

Gabe Hall

Jordan Davis

Ty Robinson -Drafted Rookie

Toughest cut: Byron Young

Philadelphia saw Milton Williams depart for New England, but it could be even better at the position with a slimmed-down Jordan Davis and a rugged rookie in Ty Robinson. With Thomas Booker in Las Vegas, second-year defensive tackle Gabe Hall becomes the biggest winner.

Eagles outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt takes part in drills as the Philadelphia Eagles work out in preparation for the Super Bowl at the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia, Pa. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025.

Edge Rusher: 5

Jalyx Hunt

Azeez Ojulari

Nolan Smith Jr.

Josh Uche

Patrick Johnson

Toughest cut: Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. -Drafted Rookie

Josh Uche was the biggest winner from Bryce Huff getting dealt to the 49ers. Ojulari has Josh Sweat-like athleticism and could have an eight-sack season.

LB: 4

Zack Baun

Nakobe Dean (PUP)

Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Jihaad Campbell-Drafted Rookie

Smael Mondon Jr. -Drafted Rookie

Dean is rehabbing without a knee brace, but he's on the PUP list. Mondon Jr. saw first-team reps during OTAs and training camp, giving him the upper hand over Dallas Gant. Jihaad Campbell and Zack Baun will be the starters.

CB: 6

Quinyon Mitchell

Cooper DeJean

Kelee Ringo

Adoree' Jackson

Jakorian Bennett

Mac McWilliams -- Drafted Rookie

Toughest cut: Eli Ricks

Ricks is on the roster bubble and loses out to Adoree' Jackson, while Kelee Ringo lost the edge, opening up a chance for Jakorian Bennett to snatch the starting spot.

Safety: 4

Reed Blankenship

Sydney Brown

Andrew Mukuba- Drafted Rookie

Tristin McCollum

Lewis Cine has done nothing to give himself a competitive advantage over Tristin McCollum and Maxen Hook. Andre Sam offers special teams prowess, but could not overtake McCollum down the stretch.

Specialist: 3

Jake Elliott

Braden Mann

Charley Hughlett
