Griner's wife had something to say...
Brittney Griner’s Wife Sends Emotional Message to Atlanta Dream Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream have been one of the hottest teams in the WNBA as of late, winning seven of their last eight games and moving to second place in the league standings with a 22-12 record.
While the Dream have enjoyed a successful season so far, Griner has taken a step back in her first year away from the Phoenix Mercury. The 6-foot-9 center out of Baylor is averaging 10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, all career lows.
However, despite the recent move across the country, Griner's wife, Cherelle Griner, has remained as supportive as ever.
On Monday, Cherelle Griner shared a new post on Instagram with a message to the Dream center. The post included multiple photos and videos of the couple, along with a few quotes. It also featured the song "Hrs & Hrs" by Muni Long.
"Been watching you play since our Baylor days in 2011 & I still have the same admiration!!!" Cherelle Griner captioned her post. "I love you down…"
Even Satou Sabally, in her first season with Phoenix, admired Cherelle’s post, leaving a “🥰” in the comments.
Brittney and Cherelle Griner's Relationship
Brittney and Cherelle Griner met when the two were in college at Baylor. The two dated for years before getting married on June 18, 2019.
In 2022, Brittney Griner was detained and imprisoned in Russia, sentenced to 9.5 years. But her wife remained by her side, even meeting with President Joe Biden to help bring her wife home. Months later, Brittney Griner was released as part of a prisoner exchange.
"So over the last nine months, you all have been so privy to one of the darkest moments of my life, and so today I am just standing here overwhelmed with emotions, but the most important emotion I have right now is just sincere gratitude for President Biden and his entire administration," Cherelle Griner said after Brittney Griner's release.
Last year, during Brittney Griner's final season with the Mercury, the couple welcomed their first son, Bash, to the world on July 8. However, Griner does have two kids, twins named Ava Simone and Solei Diem, with her previous wife.
