CeeDee Lamb Learns NFL’s Decision on Potential Punishment After Contacting Official

The Dallas Cowboys found out if star WR CeeDee Lamb would face any further disciplinary action after he collided with a referee last week.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb didn’t play in the team’s preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams last week, but that didn’t stop him from stealing the show.

While cheering on backup quarterback Joe Milton who threw a deep pass to wideout Jonathan Mingo from the sideline, Lamb turned his back to the play and began celebrating while walking toward the end zone.

However, Lamb had wandered to close to the sideline and because he wasn’t paying attention, he was trucked to the ground by an NFL referee who ran right into Lamb’s back as he was sprinting down the sideline trying to keep up with the play.

Lamb went viral as videos, gifs and memes of the play started spreading like wild fire on social media, and the Cowboys were hit with a 15-yard penalty for contacting the official.

“I hope the guy's OK, I think he's OK, the official that [Lamb] ran into,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters after the game. “But we have to be better than that. CeeDee knows better. We know better.”

NFL rules state the minimum fine for physical contact of any kind with officials is typically $40,686 for a first offense and $81,374 for a second offense, the NFL decided not to hit Lamb with any further repercussions, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“NFL determined that Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb will not be fined for the penalty and contact he drew last week vs the Rams, per a league official,” Schefter reported.

No further reason was given as to why Lamb wasn’t fined, but the league likely determined the contact wasn’t malicious.

The fact that Lamb took a hard hit from behind and the subsequent embarrassment he presumably endured after, also could have factored into the decision.
