Penn State football opened up the team’s practice facility during training camp for the final time on Tuesday. The team will shift to in-season preparation mode on Wednesday and begin its extended prep for Nevada on Aug 30. After Tuesday night’s practice, Penn State head coach James Franklin spoke with the media to discuss his team’s progress since last week and throughout camp.

Penn State camp battle updates

Although fans won’t learn about winners in camp battles due to Tuesday’s practice timing before internal announcements, Franklin was asked about the progress of certain battles. However, those battles are not over because of the team’s three-game schedule to start September.

“Well, I think there’s the aspect that there are guys right now we think are going to be ready by game one, right? But then there are also guys that we think maybe won’t be ready by game one, but we think they’re going to be ready by game four or five, and that should change. And we’ve had that every year, guys that were yellow at the end of camp, but then by game four or five, they turn to green. We’ve had guys that we thought were going to be green, and then, you know, slowed them down because they didn’t play as well as we thought they were going to be. So we’ll have a better idea of where we’re at after game three.”

The team’s major competitions right now are at backup quarterback, strong safety, running back three, and along the right side of the offensive line.
