WNBA All-Star Captain Receives Strong Words From Diana Taurasi originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Diana Taurasi spent 20 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury before announcing her retirement from the WNBA to begin 2025.

The former UConn guard capped her Hall of Fame–worthy career with three WNBA championships, an MVP award and 14 All-WNBA selections, cementing her place among the best players of her generation.

Now that Taurasi is gone, other stars have begun to make their mark, including Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx. And Taurasi is well aware of Collier's abilities.

In a recent interview with FanSided, Taurasi was asked which current WNBA player she would want to play 1-on-1. The former UConn Huskies guard was quick to name Collier over the likes of Caitlin Clark, Breanna Stewart and A'ja Wilson.

"Game to seven, 1-on-1 in my prime," Taurasi said. "Wow, that's a good question. Probably Napheesa Collier. I think, right now, she's probably the most unguardable player in our league."

Collier has been elite for the Lynx over the last few seasons, making five All-Star teams and three All-WNBA teams. In 2024, winning her first Defensive Player of the Year, she led Minnesota to the WNBA Finals for the first time in her career, only to fall to the New York Liberty.

This season, Collier has the Lynx sitting comfortably in first place with a 27-5 record. Averaging 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, Collier was also named a WNBA All-Star starter for the first time.

And Collier actually helped end Taurasi's career last year as the Lynx defeated the Mercury 2-0 in the first-round series. Collier totaled a whopping 80 points that series, while Taurasi put up 31.
