6-foot-10 center Brandon Garrison is back for another season with the Wildcats. After filling in as Amari Williams‘ backup in 2024-25, what will the 2025-26 campaign bring for the former Oklahoma State transfer?
That’s what the KSR crew is here to help explain. Steven Peake recently put together another excellent player breakdown video, this one on what Garrison can bring to Kentucky in year two under head coach Mark Pope, who was raving about Garrison’s offseason improvement just this week.
“He does give us this incredible opportunity to switch 1 through 5 because he’s such an elite-level switch defender on ball screens and away from the ball. We expect him to have a big season,” Pope told Matt Norlander this week on CBS Sports’ Summer Shootaround. “And it’s his second year. Fun stat for him, he was our leading assist-turnover guy on the entire team this summer in the eight weeks, right at a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. It’s been fun to see him grow that way in terms of his ball security from where he came in last summer. It’s been really incredible.”
With Jayden Quaintance still recovering from his ACL injury, the expectation is that Garrison will play significant minutes early in the season, likely as the starting center. He averaged 5.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 17.3 minutes per game in 2024-25. But now with a year of playing under Pope and in the SEC under his belt, Garrison is on pace to take a leap as a junior in Lexington.
