The Indiana Fever filled an immediate backcourt gap Thursday, signing guard Kyra Lambert to a seven-day contract as injuries continue to thin the Fever’s point guard depth.
The move comes with Sydney Colson (torn ACL) and Aari McDonald (broken foot) out for the season and Caitlin Clark still sidelined with a right groin injury, leaving coach Stephanie White short on primary ball-handlers heading into Friday’s home game against the Washington Mystics.
Meeting reporters after her first practice, Lambert emphasized staying ready and described her excitement about the opportunity.
"Yeah, I mean, it means everything," Lambert said. "To just remain faithful and trust the process... I'm really excited to be here."

Who is Kyra Lambert?
Lambert arrives from a decorated run in Europe, highlighted by a 2024–25 title with Olympiacos in Greece’s A1 League. She averaged 15.4 points, 6.3 assists and shot 42.1% from three last season, earning Eurocup Guard of the Year.
Her professional stops also include France (Toulouse), Latvia (TTT Riga), New Zealand (Whai), Slovakia (Slavia Banská Bystrica) and Turkey (Karsiyaka).
Before turning pro, Lambert split her collegiate career between Duke and Texas.
Her path included two ACL recoveries at Duke, one in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and another during 2018–19 preseason, before a return to regular minutes and a graduate-season transfer to Texas.
She averaged 7.1 points, 3.1 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 30.9 minutes per contest as a senior with the Longhorns in 2020-21.
Why the Indiana Fever Moved Now
Indiana’s backcourt has been in triage. With Colson, McDonald and Clark sidelined, the team has had to toggle Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham into primary creation duty while cycling in veteran Odyssey Sims on a hardship deal on Sunday.
White acknowledged Thursday that Lambert is "a little bit more unfamiliar" to the staff, but noted her preparation, speed and downhill ability as traits that fit what the Fever miss with McDonald and Colson sidelined.
Contract mechanics also shaped the timing.
Indiana had already used a hardship spot to add Sims; under league hardship rules, adding Lambert now means one of the hardship guards will likely need to be released once Clark is cleared, making this a targeted, short-window look at a player the front office believes can help elevate play over the home stretch of the season.
