Rockies 6, Diamondbacks 5: The Comeback Kids Strike Again

Stop me if you heard this one before: the Rockies came from behind to win against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Colorado Rockies took on the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final time this season in what ended up being yet another comeback victory. The game was quiet for the first four innings, with both teams going scoreless. From the fifth inning onward it became a game of back-and-forth with the Rockies coming out on top for their third come-from-behind victory of the series. With a victory, the Rockies have cemented their first series win against a divisional opponent in 2025.

Surprisingly Senzational

Right-handed pitcher Antonio Senzatela made his return to the mound after being placed on the injured list at the start of the month. Senzatela’s struggles this season are well documented. He entered today’s game with a 7.34 ERA over his 22 appearances in 2025.

Senzatela took things a little differently today. He simplified his mechanics and pitched his entire start out of the stretch whether there were runners on base or not. In addition to his regular pitch mix, he also attempted to dial back his fastball’s velocity and add on some cutting action.

The adjustments worked well for Senzatela, who put together one of his best outings of the season. He pitched five scoreless innings and gave up just four hits with a walk and a hit batter. He also tallied two strikeouts.

It can never be easy…

The Rockies’ bullpen took over for Antonio Senzatela in the sixth inning and things immediately went sideways. Luis Peralta—recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque this morning—gave up a deafening 474 foot home run to Corbin Carroll to kick off the inning and he was taken deep again by the following batter. After giving up a single to his third batter, Peralta was given the quick hook.

It continues the frustrating fall from grace for Peralta after he posted a 0.73 ERA in 15 appearances last season as a true rookie. This season Peralta has a 10.80 ERA in 10 MLB appearances, and has struggled mightily in Triple-A.

Dugan Darnell was called in to relieve Peralta and had one of the shakier appearances of his young career. With a runner on he gave up two hits and a walk. A run scored—thanks in part to an error by Orlando Arcia—that was credited to Peralta as well as one credited to Darnell.

Thankfully, Anthony Molina and Jimmy Herget were able to lock things down. They kept the Diamondbacks off the board for the next few innings, giving the Rockies a chance to battle back.

I didn’t hear no bell

The Rockies had little to offer against spot-starter Nabil Crismatt, who was perfect for the first three innings. They finally got to him in the fifth when Brenton Doyle drew a walk and stole his way into scoring position before being driven in by an Orlando Arcia single.

When disaster struck in the sixth and the Diamondbacks surged into the lead with a four run inning, it felt like the game might be over then and there… but these 2025 Rockies don’t quit.

Warming Bernabel led off the seventh inning with a single—one of two hits for him today—and was followed up by both Rockies catchers wearing pitches from Jake Woodford. Singles from Ryan Ritter and Mickey Moniak put the Rockies back on top.

Warming Bernabel would score as an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning after another leadoff single. He was driven in by a double off the bat of Braxton Fulford.

With Victor Vodnik unavailable for today’s game, rookie Juan Mejia was called upon for his first save opportunity with a 6-4 score. It wasn’t an easy outing. Mejia gave up a run on three straight singles and a sacrifice fly. However, he made the final catch of the game—and was bulldozed by Warming Bernabel in the process—to earn his first career save and cement another wild Rockies comeback victory.

Coming Up Next

The Rockies’ hated divisional older brother in the Los Angeles Dodgers are coming to town for a four game set. With the division race still close between them and the San Diego Padres, the Rockies could look to play a bit of spoiler. The series will kick off tomorrow with lefty Kyle Freeland facing off against Japanese righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM MDT.
