Following three straight seasons of subpar quarterback play, the Auburn Tigers went into the transfer portal and landed the former No. 10 overall recruit in the 2023 class, and five-star quarterback, Jackson Arnold.

Although his tenure at Oklahoma didn't go as planned, this past season saw him get benched in favor of Michael Hawkins Jr., only to be thrust back into the starting lineup, Arnold was a hot commodity in the portal. In fact, it was reported that Arnold's NIL deal was in the $2.5-$3 million range in order to get him on the Plains.

With that being said, there have been some mixed reviews on the former five-star. It was already confirmed that Hugh Freeze asked the defense to go easy on Arnold to boost his confidence, and a recent video from an Auburn practice saw Freeze going ballistic after Arnold held on to the ball too long.

While moments like these are ordinary, with Auburn opening the season with a tough road matchup against Baylor, the Tigers will need to be prepared right out of the gates.

The Bears started the 2024 season 2-4, but finished the year 6-1. They return one of the best signal callers in the country in Sawyer Robertson, and also bring back a slew of talent from an offense that ranked among the top 20.

Why Hugh Freeze Needs Jackson Arnold to Live up to Billing

Despite lighting it up at Liberty, where he posted a 34-15 record in four seasons, Freeze has struggled at Auburn. He's gone 11-14 in his first two seasons, and could very well be coaching for his job this season.

If Auburn has any chance at turning things around, improved quarterback play will be crucial. Arnold has a prime opportunity to revive his career, while also turning around a program that has been starving for success. If he can live up to his high recruiting ranking, this Auburn program could be contending for a playoff spot. If not, there will be changes on the Plains coming soon.
