The Chicago Cubs have officially recalled outfielder Owen Caissie from Triple-A Iowa ahead of Thursday's series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Time reports. News of the promotion was first reported by ESPN.

Caissie, 23, earned his first major-league call-up after a standout season in the minors, slashing .291/.391/.567 with 22 home runs over 402 plate appearances. He will join the Cubs as catcher Miguel Amaya is placed on the 10-day injured list.

Amaya suffered a badly sprained ankle in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays. Chicago will look to Caissie to help fill the roster and potentially give a boost to an offense that has cooled after performing like one of baseball's best lineups during the first half of the season.

The left-handed power hitter is limited to corner outfield and designated hitter duties, primarily playing in right field. The Cubs already have Kyle Tucker, Ian Happ, and Seiya Suzuki healthy and available to fill those positions daily. How frequently Caissie will play is still a question mark, but his addition provides flexibility for the roster and adds depth to the lineup.

Caissie will make his major-league debut Thursday, close to home. The Burlington, Ontario native, who attended Notre Dame Secondary School about 45 minutes from the Rogers Centre, is slated to bat fifth as the DH.
