Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones have been going at it for the Colts starting quarterback job this preseason.

After a couple of weeks of evaluation, head coach Shane Steichen is nearing his decision on a winner of the starting job.

Following their preseason contest with the Packers, Richardson spoke about his play this preseason and the upcoming decision coming from Steichen. He just wants to focus on what he can control, even if he believes he’s won the job.

“It really doesn’t matter what I think,” Richardson said to the media after the game. “At the end of the day, it’s really up to them…If I win the job, thank God. If not, I need to keep working.”

Richardson’s preseason has been symbolic of how his NFL career has gone up to this point. He earned the early start in the preseason opener against the Ravens, but only lasted six snaps before dislocating his right pinkie finger and leaving the game earlier than anticipated.

After taking over for Jones in Game No. 2, Richardson flashed himself as the more exciting option of the two, making impressive throws down the field and executing the easy passes he struggled with in 2024.

Through two preseason games, the 23-year-old is 8-for-13 for 91 yards with 9 rushing yards while leading two scoring drives.

Jones, for comparison, has been slightly more efficient, even if he’s still figuring out the offense. He’s 17-for-32 for 245 yards.

Even with one more preseason game to go, both have done everything they can up to this point to earn the job. Steichen believes he’s seen enough to make his choice, one he plans to make with the team at the top of mind.

“When I make this decision, I’m gonna do what I feel is best for this football team,” he said
