Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese seemed unfazed as she addressed her season’s headline-making performances in a recent Elle interview.

Asked which record she most hopes to one day break, Reese, just 23, replied: “I don’t really care about records — I just want to win a championship. The two most important goals for me before the end of my career are winning a championship, playing on the Olympic team, and winning a gold medal.”

Her blunt clarity cuts through the noise surrounding her record-breaking rise.

That honesty lands amid a fraught 2025 season for the Sky. Chicago is struggling with just eight wins against 24 losses, sitting as the second-worst team in the WNBA standings — far from where championship dreams usually begin.

Chicago Sky's 2025 Struggles Reflect Team Turmoil

Chicago has endured a chaotic campaign. Under first-year head coach Tyler Marsh, the team has slipped to the 12th seed, just above the league bottom.

Their defense has been especially porous, allowing 85.9 points per game and conceding a near league-worst 36.3% from 3-point range (only above the Dallas Wings).

Offensively, the Sky have also faltered, averaging a worrisome 16.9 turnovers per game. Season-ending injuries to veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot and the absence of center Kamilla Cardoso, who is on international duty playing for Brazil in the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup, have only compounded the challenges.

Despite all this, Reese remains steadfast. Her focus isn’t on personal accolades or records. It’s on team success.

Angel Reese's Second Season Is a Testament to Talent, Tenacity

Even in a season overshadowed by losses, Reese’s numbers remain stunning. In her second WNBA season, she leads the league in rebounds per game at 12.6, nearly three more per game than second-best A'ja Wilson of Las Vegas. Reese is also averaging 14.2 points and 3.7 assists, both up from her rookie numbers.

On May 27, she became the fastest player in league history to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds, accomplishing the feat in just 38 games, surpassing the previous record holder, 2010's No. 1 overall pick Tina Charles (44 games).

Midseason, she recorded her first WNBA triple-double: 11 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, plus three steals and two blocks in a win over the Connecticut Sun, becoming the fastest forward and third-fastest player ever to reach the milestone.

Reese was the first player this season to grab 15 or more rebounds in four straight games. She is a two-time All-Star and recipient of the Player of the Week award in July. Yet, all this while the Sky flounders around her.

It remains to be seen what the Sky can do to turn around the franchise's fortunes, which have declined significantly since their 2021 championship.
