Cade Cavalli was meant to be a star.
But for a long time, it looked like he instead might be just a disappointing tale for the Washington Nationals.
On Saturday, though, Cavalli reached a personal milestone: his first MLB pitching win.
It came with a gem against the Phillies. Cavalli went seven innings, struck out five, allowed seven hits and didn't walk anyone.
Cavalli's fastball hit triple digits, and he looks like the player he was once supposed to be.

It's been a long time coming.
Before returning to MLB two weeks ago, Cavalli had only made one big league outing, way back on Aug. 26, 2022. That day, he allowed seven runs.
Cavalli missed the entire 2023 season due to injury, and he made just three appearances in 2024.
Before his promotion this season, Cavalli had made 17 appearances at Triple-A Rochester with a 6.09 ERA.

Cavalli was once the No. 22 pick out of Oklahoma in 2020. Entering the 2022 season, he was a top-30 prospect in the entire sport.
Now at 26 years old, Cavalli may finally be starting to realize some of his potential.
It's big news for his career, and it might turn out to be a key development for the future of the Nationals. They can't make noise in the standings the rest of this season. But if Cavalli is ready to be a rotation member going forward, it'll give the Nats a chance to contend sooner rather than later.
