VfB Stuttgart expect their forward Nick Woltemade to be "motivated" for the upcoming season after his display in the German Super Cup against Bayern Munich, the club he wants to join.
Stuttgart rejected three Bayern offers for the German international and have declared the case closed now that the Super Cup has been played.
Bayern won the match 2-1 on Saturday night, with Woltemade showing a good performance and being denied by a big save from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in one of his scoring chances.
Stuttgart board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth said post-match that he believes Woltemade will be "motivated" for the Bundesliga season the team starts on Saturday at Union Berlin.
"We have spoken to him in an open and transparent way. He obviously took that in such a way that that he did quite well against these two extremely strong opponents," Wohlgemuth added in reference to Bayern centre backs Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano.
Wohlgemuth insisted that the missed chances had nothing to do with the transfer saga in which Woltemade would like to leave Stuttgart after one year for Bayern. Bbut not even a latest offer of €60 million ($70 million) has been considered good enough by the club.
"I would recommend not constructing any connections that don't exist," Wohlgemuth said.
Coach Sebastian Hoeness agreed, saying: "I think Nick gave a very good answer about how much this has been on his mind. And I believe we as a team as well."
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany also commented, saying it is not negative when there is a lot of talk about a player.
"The most important thing, even as a young player with good performances, id to learn how to deal with it because it is part of football," Kompany said.
While Stuttgart have declared the issue closed it could still simmer on until the September 1 end of the transfer window, as Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said that "you can never rule out anything 100% in football."
