At times on what was another hot Saturday morning, it felt like a game day inside Alumni Stadium.
There was only about 50 people in the stands with some of The Gridiron Club in attendance, as well as us media folks of course. But, with a few cheers here and there and position battles continuing to play themselves out, it was good action and a small preview of what’s to come on (probably) another sweltering day in two weeks.
With another scrimmage now in the books, the Eagles are 13 days away from the opener against Fordham.
It’ll be a light(ish) practice on Sunday before getting back at it Tuesday for another three-day stretch. As always, here’s everything I jotted down:
Early observations & updates
Like last week, BC worked on its home routine as a unit down to pretty much every detail in walk-through fashion before getting into various periods. Obviously, it’s standard so younger guys aren’t completely lost August 30, but still nice to see all the little things being addressed throughout practices.
Jude Bowry, Reed Harris and Turbo Harris rested again. I asked O’Brien about each of them after practice and he said all three should be fine. They all looked looked good and were out watching their teammates. Frankly, fans should be okay not seeing all three of them until Michigan State if need be. Should beat Fordham handily.
Four scouts in the house I think, could only make out a Pats shirt on one of them after practice. I’m also 99.9% sure there was a guy wearing Panthers colors as well.
I sat up in front of the suites in that last row of bleachers with the back on them and I gotta say, those are some damn good seats. Only went to two BC games growing up (second was Ed Reed game if I haven’t mentioned it before) so I have limited seat-view knowledge. Especially phenomenal on the shade side too.
Kickoffs & punts
Just getting this out of the way now since there was a little bit of both. Andy Quinn was hitting a few moon shots and Shamus Florio might be your need-it-inside-the-10 guy in a field position game. Either way, it literally is already night & day from a year ago. You all know how encouraged I am by the options they have with returners too. TBD who the kickoff guy is, one went out of bounds today but I didn’t get who it was.
