On the strength of a 12-game win streak, the Milwaukee Brewers have solidified themselves as MLB’s team to beat entering the final six weeks of the regular season.
The starting rotation has dominated during the stretch, notably Brandon Woodruff, who has returned to Cy Young-level form since coming off the injured list. During the Brewers’ win streak, Woodruff has allowed four earned runs over 17 innings of work across three starts, striking out 20 batters.
The 32-year-old veteran missed the 2024 season due to shoulder surgery and did not debut this year until early July.
Brandon Woodruff Exits Early After Four Scoreless Innings
Woodruff was on track to pick up a third consecutive win during Wednesday’s outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Milwaukee led 6–0 lead entering the fifth inning, but Woodruff was removed after four scoreless innings and 65 pitches.
Fans speculated something might be wrong with the right-hander, but manager Pat Murphy told the media after the game that it was a scheduled short start for Woodruff, who is only a month into his return from shoulder surgery.
"Today was a scheduled shorter start for Brandon Woodruff, Pat Murphy said. No concern with the hook after 4 innings."

Woodruff’s Comeback Strengthening Brewers’ Playoff Rotation
Woodruff has spent his eight-year career with the Brewers after making his big-league debut in 2017.
Since then, he’s collected two All-Star selections and finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting in 2021. In 122 career regular-season starts, Woodruff has a 3.04 ERA, 50–26 record, and 837 strikeouts.
The Brewers are on pace to collect a fourth division title in five seasons, and Woodruff seeks to continue his resurgent return into a potential playoff run
