Illinois offered 2027 linebacker Dewayne Ingram from Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial, continuing its growing recruiting efforts in the Lone Star state.

A 6-foot-2, 213-pound linebacker, Ingram earned his first Power 4 offer from the Illini. He will play his first season at Lakeview Centennial this fall after transferring from White HS in Dallas.

Ingram also holds offers from UNLV, Colorado State, and Sacramento State. Illinois is his first Power 4 offer, marking a turning point in his recruitment. Linebackers coach Archie McDaniel, a Texas native, heads up the recruitment for the Illini.

“Getting the offer from Illinois was a big moment for me,” Ingram said. “Coach McDaniel, the linebackers coach, reached out, and we had a great conversation about what they’re building and how they see me fitting into their system.”

Since hiring McDaniel, Illinois has ramped up recruiting efforts in Texas. The Illini already hold 2026 commitments from safety Isaiah Williams, edge rusher Jaylen Stewart, and linebacker Kaedyn Cobbs.

Ingram emphasized his connection with McDaniel and praised the momentum of the Illinois program under head coach Bret Bielema.

“Overall, I think Illinois has a strong program with great tradition, and I like the energy their staff brings,” Ingram said. “Coach McDaniel has been honest and consistent in communicating with me, telling me they like my physicality, my ability to make plays, and the way I compete on every snap.”

Versatility a strength

Ingram contributes on both sides of the ball in high school, lining up at safety, linebacker, and edge on defense. He also plays wide receiver on offense. Illinois offered Ingram as an inside linebacker.

On my film, I think the Illinois coaches and other schools notice my effort, my versatility, my ability to create turnovers and my impact on the game in multiple ways,” Ingram said.

His recruiting profile continues to rise as more Power 4 programs show interest. Ingram has already visited SMU, and more offers are expected to follow this fall. For now, Illinois has positioned itself as a serious contender.

“Right now, besides Illinois, I would say UNLV and Colorado State are recruiting me the hardest,” Ingram said. “It’s still early but it’s a blessing to have these opportunities, and I’m staying focused on continuing to improve so I can be ready wherever I go.”
