Jersey swaps are common among NBA players. As for coaches, they’d rather have their players take the limelight. However, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse experienced a jersey swap with a fellow champion, but in a different sport.
As the NBA UK account on X posted, Nurse gifted Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola with a customized 76ers jersey, which bears the former footballer’s nickname and the number 76. In return, Guardiola gave Nurse a Man City jersey with the basketball coach’s surname and the number 25.
Nurse visited Manchester City’s training session at the Etihad Campus, which is a part of their preparations for the upcoming 2025-26 Premier League season. Guardiola is seeking his seventh Premier League title after winning six straight from 2017-18 to 2023-24.
However, the Blues must dethrone defending champions Liverpool to claim their 11th league title. Manchester City’s quest starts against Wolves, followed by a showdown versus Tottenham.
Guardiola’s managerial success precedes his Manchester City tenure, which started in 2016. He led Bayern Munich to three consecutive Bundesliga titles from 2008-09 to 2010-11. He also contributed three La Liga titles to Barcelona, adding to the six championships he won as a player.
Meanwhile, Nurse won the 2019 NBA Championship with the Toronto Raptors and Coach of the Year honors the following season. While he was born and raised in the United States, he had extensive work experience in England.
Nurse spent 12 years in the British basketball system, starting as a player-coach for the Derby Rams. He then focused on coaching in his stints with British Basketball League teams, including the Manchester Giants and the Brighton Bears.
