As the NFL season rapidly approaches, Travis Kelce has been in the news more and more both for his football and non-football activities. On the heels of having pop icon Taylor Swift on his New Heights podcast, Kelce is getting more attention than ever before.
But while many people in sports media and non-sports media have been critical of how Kelce spends his free time, former NFL and Heisman-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel isn't one of them.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Manziel declared that Kelce clearly loves football as much as any player. He dismissed any concerns that Kelce might be distracted by his life as a celebrity and knows that when the game is on the line, Kelce will be giving it his all.
"Yeah, listen, the guy is a true one of one," Manziel said. "I think nobody would deny how much he loves the game and puts his heart on the line every single week, week in and week out like he’s been doing for years. He’s a special person, so nothing that he does, whether he flies to New York for dinner with his girl during the season or whatever it is. Listen, there’s certain people who move a little bit differently. He is one of them.
"But I know for certain, and everybody that’s a Chiefs fan knows, when Sunday, Thursday or Monday rolls around, there is for sure one or two people on that team who will be ready, juiced and amped to win a football game [and he's one of them]. Everything else is just, ‘Hey, we gotta make a living. We gotta make a bag. We gotta create something for whenever we’re done playing.’ I think he’s done an excellent job of it."
There have been concerns for Kelce's future
By his own recent admission, Kelce was not completely focused on last season. The end result was one of the worst years of his career and a lackluster performance in Super Bowl LIX.
“I think it might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up. And opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer. I don’t say this as ‘I shouldn’t have done it.’ I’m just saying that my work ethic is such that I have so much pride in how I do things that I never want the product to tail off, and I feel like these past two years haven’t been to my standard. I just have such a motivation to show up this year for my guys,” Kelce said.
Prior to Super Bowl LIX, fans were convinced that Kelce would be retiring afterwards. He surprised people by announcing that he would be returning for the 2025 season but has even more people convinced that this will be his last year.
Will 2025 be a normal season for Kelce, or will it just be a repeat of last year's lackluster performance?
