In the past two years alone, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has earned a third Super Bowl ring, officially entered a relationship with Taylor Swift, and cemented his place as a shoo-in Hall of Famer.

Don’t get Kelce wrong: he’s not upset with how things have gone recently. At the same time, the 10-time Pro Bowler has no problem admitting that he hasn’t lived up to his own expectations since the 2023 season began.

“I think it might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up,” Kelce told GQ. “And opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer.

“I don’t say this as ‘I shouldn’t have done it,’” Kelce continued. “I’m just saying that my work ethic is such that I have so much pride in how I do things that I never want the product to tail off, and I feel like these past two years haven’t been to my standard.”

Kelce added that he has “such a motivation” to bounce back and win another Super Bowl.

Can the Chiefs Count on Travis Kelce at Age 36?

Although Kelce caught 97 passes last season, his 823 yards, 8.5 yards per reception, and three touchdowns all marked his fewest since joining the starting lineup in 2014. The four-time All-Pro only hauled in 13 catches for 175 yards during the postseason, well below the 26 receptions and 296 yards Kelce averaged over the 2019-23 playoff runs.

However, Kelce remains the Chiefs’ unquestioned starting tight end entering his age-36 season, and he’s still an imposing weapon in the passing game. Barring injury, you should plan on seeing plenty of Kelce after Kansas City opted not to select a tight end in last April’s draft.

“Win a Super Bowl is the only goal,” Kelce said. “It’s the only goal. It’s every goal.”

Kansas City begins its 2025 season against the rival Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, Sept. 5, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
