The Yankees recorded one of the better wins in recent weeks against the Twins, defeating Minnesota 6–2 on Monday night.

With the victory, New York improved to 63–56, remaining in the thick of the playoff race, but still third in the AL East as they try to steady a rocky stretch.

Offensively, the Yankees did a little of everything. Cody Bellinger opened up the scoring and the club launched multiple homers to provide early breathing room, while the bullpen closed cleanly.

But the real story was rookie starter Will Warren, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, struck out seven, allowed just three hits and two runs, giving the Yankees a dominant win the fans have craved amid the team's recent slump.

This performance earned Warren the Player of the Game honor for the fourth time this season. He has equaled Ben Rice on the Yankees leaderboard for the honor this season.

Will Warren Sends Strong Message After Yankees Win

“I think we’ve been needing that spark,” Warren told reporters. “We’ve been playing flat, I feel like. We got a spark of energy.

"The past month hasn’t been how we’re supposed to play baseball. We’ve had a gut punch lately, and it was nice to get out there and play baseball the way we’re supposed to.”

Even manager Aaron Boone was left impressed with his performance.

“He filled up the strike zone,” Boone noted. “You saw swing and miss with the heater. I thought the sweeper was good.

"He was on the attack. Big performance. That’s what it’s supposed to look like right there.”
