Dolphins reportedly on the verge of players-only meeting after horrendous practice vs. Lions

The Miami Dolphins haven't had the best of times in their joint practices. It seems like there could very well be a meeting regarding these problems.

The Miami Dolphins have had a rough stretch during training camp, with several injuries piling up. They tied in their preseason opener against the Chicago Bears — a highlight during what was otherwise a tense week of joint practices. Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly even accused the Bears of playing dirty during those sessions.

“No, it was dirty. You aren't supposed to hit in a joint practice. The Bears were lighting people up. There was one instance where a Bears defender tried to closed line a Dolphins receiver. Who does that on a football field, much less a practice,” Kelly posted.

Next up for the Dolphins is a preseason game against the Detroit Lions. On Wednesday, the two teams held a joint practice — and calling it “ugly” for Miami would be an understatement.

“That was the most lopsided joint practice I’ve ever seen. Lions dominated both sides," The Athletic's Colton Pouncy wrote.

The Dolphins struggled in nearly every aspect of practice, which has raised concerns inside and outside the building. According to some reports, a team meeting could be on the horizon.

“Sounds to me like the Dolphins could have a players only meeting soon over the way they’re representing themselves in these joint practices. That would be a positive development. This team needs to confront that what they’ve been over the last 3 years isn’t enough,” 3 Yards Per Carry’s Chris Kouffman posted.

Miami has looked noticeably poor during joint practice sessions throughout the week. The bigger concern, however, is that this kind of performance could reignite the toxic culture that has haunted the team in recent years.

A team meeting might be exactly what the Dolphins need — along with a reality check. If this trend continues into the regular season, the consequences could be dire. It’s up to the team to make changes now, before it’s too late.
