Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a problem with what Carson Hocevar said after hitting his Spire Motorsports teammate, Michael McDowell, during the Watkins Glen race. On Dale Jr. Download, Earnhardt called out Hocevar for saying he did not want to talk to McDowell.
“There may be some conversations happening this week after how that all played out,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said about the incident with Carson Hocevar and Michael McDowell. “We’ll see.”
Earnhardt later said, “Yeah, that was strange.” He then added, “What crew guy is going to go, ‘Sorry, Michael, he doesn’t want to see you right now. Sorry, we can’t let you over here. He’s requested no visitors.'”
After Hocevar doored McDowell at Watkins Glen, he told his spotter, “I don’t want to talk to him, look at him, don’t let him near me.” On Wednesday, Hocevar spoke to reporters about the incident and didn’t seem to be in a rush to patch things up.
“No, we haven’t talked or whatever,” Hocevar said in a video interview shared by Toby Christie. “He wanted to sit down at Richmond. I’m gone racing and he’s gone as well. So it’s just, sometimes, maybe it’s best case scenario that we’re both gone. But it didn’t seem like that big of a deal to me.”
It’s been an interesting 2025 season for Carson Hocevar
Hocevar added, “Either he made a mistake or misjudged and obviously turned me. And then we were just fighting for the last lap and last corner and felt like that was plenty OK to do considering the contact, right? I can play defense for one corner to try to get the spot.”
The 2025 season has been a challenging one for Hocevar. He has had incidents with several drivers, including Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Brad Keselowski and Zane Smith. Hocevar is competing in his second season as a full-time Cup Series driver and is still looking for his first win.
Back in June, Hocevar was asked about being compared to NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., as they seemingly have the same fire and passion. “I mean, if I win seven championships, I would potentially call, want to, whatever,” Hocevar said. “It’s obviously, if you’re going to get compared to one guy, that’s the guy. You know, endorsements from Dale Jr. and everybody. I don’t think I’m new anything. I think I’m new me. That’s, everything about me is real, I’m not trying to play a part or trying to fit a role or trying to pretend to be anybody.”
