The Milwaukee Bucks are under immense pressure to perform, and their head coach is at the forefront.

In 2024, the Bucks made a shocking midseason move when they fired head coach Adrian Griffin after he had led the team to one of the best records in the league. Despite Milwaukee’s success, it determined that Griffin wasn’t the man for the job and soon brought in Doc Rivers to take over.

After beginning the year in the broadcasting game, Rivers was the Bucks’ bench boss for the final few weeks of the season, with the Bucks struggling to adjust to the seismic change midseason. In year two at the helm, injuries again doomed Rivers’ squad and have led the Bucks to make some big moves this offseason.

Going into what could be the final year of the Giannis Antetokounmpo era in Milwaukee, Rivers has pressure to get results. As pointed out by FanSided’s William Moxon, the Bucks will likely be playing for Rivers’ job next season.

As Moxon wrote, the Bucks’ big move to bring in Myles Turner signaled that the team is looking to contend again next season, and Rivers could certainly be the scapegoat if things go poorly. While Rivers could certainly be partially to blame for any Bucks’ mishaps next season, the legendary coach isn’t being dealt the greatest hand, either.

As Milwaukee relies on Rivers to make the pieces work and allow Antetokounmpo to run the show, it could be a stressful season for the Bucks and their head coach. Ideally, the team can improve and make some noise in the postseason, but Rivers might be unemployed this time next year if things don’t work out.
