According to an update shared by SPORT, it has come to light that Manchester United summer signing Benjamin Sesko was a target for Barcelona. However, the Blaugrana looked at the former RB Leipzig forward as a possibile reinforcement for the summer of 2026.
Sesko, who has already shown immense potential for both club and country, was highly rated by Barcelona’s sporting director Deco.
In fact, Deco had been thinking ahead to the moment Lewandowski’s time at the club would come to an end.
The Polish striker is currently in his fourth season and everything points to the fact that he will leave in 2026 at the age of 37.
From the start, Barcelona knew there was little chance of Sesko staying in Leipzig much longer. The club’s financial limits meant they could not commit to an expensive signing now and wait two years.
Instead, they have already stretched their budget further than expected, including making moves to prepare for the replacement of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen by seizing the opportunity to sign Joan Garcia.

The reality for Barcelona is that they simply did not have the means to secure Sesko and keep him on hold until Lewandowski’s departure.
With the club still in a rebuilding phase, they may now have to explore more affordable options in the transfer market.
Deco has often stressed that he prefers versatile players who can adapt to different positions rather than specialists limited to one role.
This means Barcelona could consider replacing Lewandowski not with a pure number nine, but with a forward who can play in multiple attacking roles and gradually take over the central striker’s duties.
For now, Sesko’s move to Manchester United closes one door, but Barcelona’s search for their next great striker remains wide open.
The challenge will be finding the right balance between quality, adaptability, and affordability in the years ahead.
