The New York Yankees started the season strong but have dropped off in recent months. Since June 13, New York is 20-29. The Yankees sit third in the AL East at 62–55, though their playoff hopes remain alive with a half-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final wild-card spot.

Questions have been raised about whether manager Aaron Boone is the right man for the job after the nosedive, and pressure is mounting amid rumors of a replacement.

The team has yet to find its footing, but Boone believes things will improve after speaking with Joe Torre, the manager who led the Yankees to World Series titles in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000.

“Joe and I have actually been in contact a lot the last couple of weeks. He is hanging on everything with us,” Boone said. “We’ve had a lot of contact back and forth — text messages, things like that."

“[I was reminded] of that 2000 team that ended up losing 15 out of 18 [to close the regular season], won [87 games] and caught fire and went on a run," he continued.

"Certainly, we are hoping for that kind of run. It has been a tough couple of months for us. I still maintain that we have guys capable of going on a really good run, but again, at this point, it’s all talk.” Boone added.

Joe Torre's Honest Admission on Aaron Boone Amid Bad Streak

It will come as a big gush of confidence for Boone, hearing Torre's opinion of him. The Hall of Famer still believes in him.

"There are plenty of games left," Torre said. "Boonie knows what he has here and knows he is going to get a run out of these guys. The pressure involved with putting on the pinstripes, it’s hard to put into words because it’s so different."

With a three-game series against the Houston Astros tied, the Yankees are on the verge of a win against the AL West leader and have an opportunity to turn things around from here on out. Despite Torre’s confidence, fans are watching him closely. He still needs to prove why he is still the right man for the job.
