There aren’t many Kirby Smarts out there in the world, especially any as famous as the one down in Athens, Georgia. That makes some things in the day-to-day more difficult for him, like going into a drive-thru, for example.
Sitting down on ‘Talkin’ Season – Part 1′ with Marty Smith and Ryan McGee at ESPN, Smart joked about what he has to do to do something as simple as run through a restaurant’s drive-thru. He admitted that he’ll often give someone else’s name, whether a family member’s name or otherwise, to avoid being immediately recognized as Kirby Smart, head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs.
“Worst thing about those places? They want your name. And, right when I pull up, they go, ‘Can I get a name for the order?'” said Smart. “And, I always give my son’s name or my wife’s name, or, if they’re with me, somebody else. You know, I don’t like giving my own name because then I get into another conversation.”
“The best is when they have no clue,” Smart laughed. “That is the best. That is honestly the best.”
For more of that content, ‘Talkin’ Season’, hosted by Smith and McGee, will air in two parts the next two nights on the SEC Network. It will be on at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CT and 11 p.m. EST/10 p.m. CT on the SECN.
While the average, everyday customer gets their food, Smart is about the right amount of famous or notable to have to avoid this kind of additional interaction. That’s why, when it comes to fast food, he’s known as ‘Weston Smart’, ‘Andrew Smart’, or otherwise to stay as anonymous as he possibly can in the car.
Georgia lands at No. 5 in the Preseason College Football AP Poll
Georgia is still considered an elite program coming into this college football season. That’s with The Associated Press naming Georgia as the No. 5 team in the Preseason Poll on Monday ahead of kickoff later this month. That’s after, last week, Georgia was ranked fourth in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
The AP Poll ranked Texas at number one. No. 2 Penn State, No. 3 Ohio State, and No. 4 Clemson, along with Georgia, rounded out their top five.
The Bulldogs will open the season on August 30th against Marshall. From there, Georgia has five games with teams ranked in the Top-25 of the Preseason AP Poll released this morning.
