For the second consecutive offseason, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal reeled in a massive fish from the portal. During an appearance on Gramlich & Mac Lain, Cristobal discussed his excitement to watch transfer quarterback Carson Beck take the field for the Hurricanes.

“He’s 100% healthy. So he’s been working out with the team since we started our summer workouts. He’s had plenty of reps in our player-led practices, from seven-on-seven to team reps, there haven’t been any limitations on him,” Cristobal said.

“What you see is a very experienced guy. He really understands the game inside and out. The back end, the front end, the line of scrimmage. He understands blocking schemes. He understands where he’s protected, how he’s protected, if he’s protected, and he understands what to get us into if we need a safety valve.”

Even if Beck hadn’t recovered so quickly from his UCL injury, he still would’ve been entering the 2025 campaign with plenty of experience under his belt. Beck spent four seasons at Georgia, including two as a starter.

Last season, Beck completed 64.7% of his passes for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns while throwing 12 interceptions. While it was a solid campaign for Beck, it wasn’t nearly as excellent as his 2023 season, when he exploded for 72.4% of his pass attempts for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns compared to just six interceptions.

Beck’s time with Georgia had a sour end. The former All-SEC Second-Team member suffered a severe elbow injury on the final play of the first half in Georgia’s SEC Championship showdown against Texas.

Although Beck returned on the final play of the game, the injury ultimately required surgery and ended his season. Georgia lost in its first game in the College Football Playoff and Beck transferred to Miami shortly afterwards.

Now, Beck is hungry to have a career year in his new environment. Cristobal has liked what he’s seen from the NFL prospect thus far.

“He’s got a great energy to him. People wonder always, ‘Hey, when you bring in a transfer, what is he going to be like?’ We’re gettingthe best version of Carson Beck. He’s motivated in the right way.

“By that, I mean, all the focus is on here now — on Miami and helping Miami win and helping Miami get better. And he’s keeping team-first in his mentality. We’re beyond fired up to watch him play.”

On Aug. 31, Carson Beck will make his Miami debut when the Hurricanes square off against Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ABC.
