Lots going on in San Francisco.
49ers rule RB out for season with injury, then cut QB in latest roster decisions originally appeared on The Sporting News
The crazy summer of roster movement for the San Francisco 49ers hasn't stopped.
On Monday, they made a few more moves.
The first was to place running back Ameer Abdullah on season-ending injured reserve. He'd just joined San Francisco recently, but he was hurt in the preseason opener over the weekend.
Then the 49ers waived QB Tanner Mordecai.
Ironically, the 49ers had already waived Mordecai once, then brought him back. Seems like this might not be the last time Mordecai is involved in a San Francisco transaction.
Mordecai was a well-traveled college quarterback who hasn't been able to stick at the NFL level so far.

The 49ers also activated offensive lineman Andre Dillard off the Physically Unable to Perform list, paving the way for him to get a couple preseason games and be ready for the season.
The Abdullah injury placement isn't a shock. The 49ers already made a roster move to offset that.
Over the weekend, San Francisco signed Jeff Wilson Jr., who previously played for the 'Niners. The power running back was an unlikely breakthrough when he originally joined the 49ers but somehow found a path to relevance. He parlayed that into a spot with the Dolphins, where he again played more than many were expecting. Now, Wilson returns to town.

Of course, the 49ers are hoping starting running back Christian McCaffrey stays healthy and can hold down his superstar role once again after a bumpy 2024.
And at quarterback, Brock Purdy enters the season after his massive offseason extension. He's being backed up by Mac Jones, the former Patriots first-round pick.
The 49ers definitely seem to be embracing the fullness of offseason roster moves. Expect more to come soon enough.
