Concerning news about Spieth emerges.
Concerning News Emerges on Jordan Spieth Amid PGA Tour's FedExCup Playoffs originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
In July, Jordan Spieth and his wife, Annie, welcomed their third child, daughter Sully. While his off the course life is filled with joy, Spieth has struggled to find any joy on the course since injuring his back in June.
Though Spieth ranked among the top 70 in FedEx Cup points to earn a berth in the first week of the PGA Tour's playoffs, he was not high enough in the standings to ensure he would advance to the second week (only the top 50 on the points list qualify) regardless of his finish this weekend. He started the event 48th. That meant Spieth needed a strong finish at the St. Jude Championship and spent the entire tournament in jeopardy.
Spieth was 50th on the FedEx standings after two rounds, entering the weekend at 1-under par and tied for 53rd in Memphis, Tennessee. He continued to tread water in the third round with another even-par day. He fired a 2-under-par 68 on Sunday, his best round of the St. Jude Championship, but a couple of bogeys late on the front nine denied him a top 30 finish.

Jordan Spieth Was in Danger of Playoff Elimination Throughout the St. Jude Championship
Spieth finished tied for 38th at 3-under par at the St. Jude Championship. Given big weeks by Bud Cauley (tied 14th), Rickie Fowler (tied sixth) and Jhonattan Vegas (tied 14th), among others, Spieth's effort fell short of what he needed. Shortly after play concluded, the PGA Tour updated the points list and Spieth was 54th.

That meant Spieth had fallen six spots in the points standings from last week. The fall left him on the outside of the top 50 that advanced to the BMW Championship, which will cull the playoff field to the 30 who will compete at East Lake for the Tour Championship.
Tommy Fleetwood Is Still Searching for His First PGA Tour Win
Spieth was not the only veteran golfer to experience disappointment this weekend. Heading into the final round, Tommy Fleetwood held the lead at 14-under par, one better than countryman Justin Rose.
Fleetwood couldn't get anything going on Sunday, settling for a 1-under-par 69. He finished tied for third, one shot behind Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun. Rose beat Spaun in a playoff. The outcome left the 34-year-old Fleetwood still seeking his first win on the PGA Tour.
