The Mercury completely dominated the Fever.
Aliyah Boston Won’t Hide Behind Excuses After Fever’s Embarrassing Defeat to Mercury originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever got themselves embarrassed pretty badly on Thursday as they battled the Phoenix Mercury in a road game at PHX Arena. It was just one of those nights for the Fever, who ended up suffering a 90-65 shellacking at the hands of the Mercury.
Much like the rest of the squad, Aliyah Boston struggled with her shot on Thursday, going just 1-of-6 from the field for four points. The three-time All-Star was able to register nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block, but it was far from enough to help Indiana avoid a deflating loss.
It was Indiana’s fourth consecutive game on the road. This team has been travelling for the past eight days, and fatigue undeniably played a significant role in Thursday’s loss. Boston, however, refused to make excuses.
"Yeah, I mean, possibly, but we're not going to just give all the credit to [fatigue]," Boston said after the game. "I think once again, every time you step on the floor, we just have to be ready."
It is worth noting that Boston was sniffing and battling a cold as she answered questions after the game. It is unclear if the 23-year-old is dealing with some sort of illness, but this is not something she’s using as an excuse either.
Boston and Co. will be back in action on Saturday. They will battle their rivals, the Chicago Sky, in a home game at Gainbridge Arena. It will be their sixth game in 11 days, but the silver lining is at least they get to play at home again.
