The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we’re at 27 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we’re taking a look at the history of No. 27 and the players who wore it best.
Current Steelers No. 27 wearer: CB Cory Trice, RB Trey Sermon
The Steelers have two No. 27 wearers on their roster — CB Cory Trice and RB Trey Sermon. Trice was selected with the 241st pick of the seventh round in the 2023 NFL Draft, while Sermon signed with Pittsburgh this past May. While both players are competing for a spot on the Steelers' 53-man roster, Sermon may be the only player to see preseason action — as Trice's availability is shrouded in mystery after sustaining a hamstring injury a little over a week ago.
Last five Steelers to wear No. 27:
- Trey Sermon, 2025-present
- Cory Trice, 2024-present
- Marcus Allen, 2018-2022
- J.J. Wilcox, 2017
- LeGarrette Blount, 2014
Best No. 27 in Steelers history: S Glen Edwards
There is no greater Steelers wearer of No. 27 than S Glen Edwards — a pivotal member of the legendary Steel Curtain defense. After signing with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent following the 1971 NFL Draft, Edwards went on to have an exceptional seven-year Steel City tenure — snagging 25 interceptions, tied for the 12th most by a Steeler all time, as well as winning two Super Bowls. He also earned one First-Team All-Pro selection, three Second-Team All-Pro selections, and was named to two Pro Bowls — more feathers in the cap for arguably the best Steeler to ever wear No. 27.
