After sitting out the entire 2024 regular season due to a torn meniscus, Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is preparing for his first year as the team's full-time starter in 2025.

Vikings fans will be getting an in-game look at McCarthy on Saturday, as the Vikings have their preseason opener scheduled against the Houston Texans.

It's clear he's already establishing himself as a fan favorite, though. On Friday, the team's official X account posted a video of a rather unusual interaction involving the quarterback.

While signing autographs, a young Vikings fan asked McCarthy if he could have the hat he was wearing, to which he gave a small laugh and happily handed it over.

Fans Praising McCarthy for His Kind Behavior

It's not often you see players give the clothes off their back to a fan, and the video has sparked a lot of reactions from social media users, applauding McCarthy for being so kind.

"Looks like he genuinely enjoys the time with the young fans. We got a good one," said one commenter.

"great move. This kid will remember this his whole life. Its just a little thing, but thats so impressive," said another.

"Always internally checking himself to serve others. He is a leader of leaders. Dude is willing to serve others before himself constantly," a third added.

A fourth stated, "JJ is the real deal. he going to be most popular dude in city and state very quickly #NFL."

"Yo J.J Mccarthy is such a nice dude I guarantee this made that kids day, I've never wanted a Vikings QB to succeed more, you're the man @jjmccarthy09#Skol," a fifth continued.

"The greatest human being who’s ever lived? Many are saying it," said another.

Kevin O'Connell Talks Relationship With McCarthy

On any football team, the relationship between a quarterback and head coach is extremely crucial. That's no different on the Vikings with McCarthy and Kevin O'Connell.

"I'm fired up about [McCarthy] and I," O'Connell said via CBS News' Anthony Bettin. "The dynamic we have, and how we're kind of both growing together on a daily basis, looking towards what this finished product of training camp looks like as we attack the season together."

That dynamic will be tested early on, with the Vikings opening up their regular season with an NFC North matchup on the road against the Chicago Bears on "Monday Night Football." Minnesota is a two-point favorite on ESPN Bet.
