In the Class of 2025, Mississippi State signed several juco transfers and the staff expected several of those guys to make an immediate impact. So far, one of those transfers – cornerback Amarien Jefferson, has been drawing good compliments from his teammates.

Known moreso as ‘Jet’, Jefferson has steadily been in the rotation at his position and is fighting for a starting spot. Earlier this week the Mississippi native met with the media for the first time as a Bulldog:

Q: What do you have to say about your performance in camp?
Jefferson
: I’ve been doing pretty well during the spring, during the fall. We’ve been competing. We’ve got a great corners room and I am just trying to compete and get better.

Q: Facing the 1s on offense, who are some of the guys you enjoy going up against?
Jefferson
: All of them are great guys. All of them are competing to get a good spot. All of the guys are good, very good. I’m just trying to get better.

Q: Do you see much of a dropoff when they rotate receivers?
Jefferson
: There’s no dropoff. The 1s, the 2s, all of them are high-caliber players. It’s hard to go against all of them.

Q: Hoe does that make you a better player?
Jefferson
: They are competing, playing fast and they get to their spot. They are coached very well.

Q: Who are some of the guys standing out at your position so far?
Jefferson
: I can’t really say because all of the guys, we’re all competing for a spot. We are all trying to perform and be good as a corners’ group and get better as a team.

Q: Which receiver gives you the most problems?
Jefferson
: I would say all of them. All of them are very fast and they play hard. So it would be hard to pick just one.

Q: What’s been the biggest adjustment from juco for you so far?
Jefferson
: Really it’s much faster than juco. Guys are much bigger, faster. So it’s a lot but you got to move forward and grow.

Q: Which corner spot are you playing?
Jefferson
: I play both sides. It really doesn’t matter. You got to be good on both sides to get to the next level.

Q: Do you have a preference?
Jefferson
: No sir, I don’t.

Q: Kelley Jones has been here a couple of years now. What is his relationship like with you?
Jefferson
: He’s been a good friend. He’s helped me to learn the plays, learning how to be a better teammate and be a leader and follow the group.

Q: Mississippi State obviously pursued you in recruiting. How does that make you feel when it comes to performing at this level?
Jefferson: I feel like you can be found anywhere. If you play, put it on film, you can get to where you want to be. Just work hard and pray and you will get there.

Q: Your thoughts on the defense as a whole?
Jefferson
: The defense, man, we bring a lot of energy to the table in workouts, practice, film room. We have a lot of energy and we just try to compete as a team.

Q: Has it been fun to get the contact going in practice?
Jefferson
: It has been fun. Now we are getting to hit and bring some guys down. It’s fun.

Q: Are you looking forward to the first scrimmage?
Jefferson
: Oh yeah, I’m looking forward to it.

Q: Who are some of the leaders on this defense?
Jefferson
: We got a lot of leaders on defense, a lot to name. But I would say Brylo (Brylan Lanier), Jalen (Smith), the safeties. They are leaders on the defense and with the linebackers like Jalen and guys that are coming in. We are all trying to build a bond together and come together as a team.

Q: Have you seen a different in the defensive line so far and is that making it easier on the secondary?
Jefferson
: Yeah, the front seven, those some dogs out there. They are getting to it and helping us out on the back end. So we trust them and they trust us. We work as a team to get it done.
