The Arkansas Razorbacks return starting quarterback Taylen Green for the 2025 season. It will be his second season with the program a year removed from the veteran quarterback battling injury concerns that limited him, but didn’t keep him from missing a single game, in 2024.
There had been some clues that Green was battling through injuries last season. In particular, following a low hit against Tennessee on October 5th, he would be forced to go into the injury tent. He’d try to return to that game, but had to be pulled again as he struggled with his mobility. A week later, despite the injury, which head coach Sam Pittman both referred to as a mild MCL injury and a bone bruise, he’d return to the field to play LSU.
Recently, it’s come to light that the injury might have been worse than it seemed. Arkansas strength and conditioning coach Ben Sowders recently hinted that the injury was worse and that many players would have sat out the second half of the season with what Taylen Green was dealing with.
Now, with Fall Camp underway for Arkansas, Green seemed to confirm he was more injured last season than it previously seemed. The injury took away his legs, which Green relies on. At the same time, he hopes that it would have made him a better passer.
“I ain’t going to lie, it was pretty difficult,” Taylen Green said. “It was hard, not just physically but mentally. I wanted to break some runs, and I knew if I was healthy, I could do it. At the same time, it made me stay in the pocket a little bit more and use my arm a little bit. That’s what I love about last year and about spring and fall. I can’t really run that much, so I look at it as a different perspective of honing in on my passing game, my footwork, which Coach [Bobby] Petrino is always on me about.”
Taylen Green would finish the 2024 season completing 60.4 percent of his passes for 3,154 yards and 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He also rushed for 602 yards and eight touchdowns.
Notably, Green rushed for 331 yards in the five games before the Tennessee matchup. He’d have 271 in their next eight games. On top of that, his completion percentage went from 54 percent of his passes before the Tennessee game to 65 percent for the final eight games of the season.
Taylen Green is hoping to take that improved passing attack and blend it with improved health in 2025. From there, he could be a spark for the Razorbacks in his second season playing under offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. That starts on August 30th against Alabama A&M.
