Dallas Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb is used to taking hits on the field, but not while standing on the sideline in street clothes. Getting leveled during a play? That's expected. Absorbing a collision next to the bench? Never. So when side judge Anthony Jeffries crashed into Lamb during Saturday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, it was bizarre.

The unexpected hit surprised Lamb and everyone nearby. Still, Lamb managed to laugh it off and found ways to joke about the incident after the game.

The collision occurred in the restricted sideline area and resulted in a 15-yard penalty against the Cowboys for making contact with an official.

After the game, the collision drew sharp criticism from Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer, who stressed the need for better discipline.

"We got to be better with discipline. I hope the [official] is okay. …" Schottenheimer said. "We have to be better than that. CeeDee knows better, we know better, but the discipline on our part, we're fine with the combative penalties. But we don't line up onsides, they warned us a couple times, we have to do a better job of coaching and playing."

The Cowboys lost 31-21, but Schottenheimer's focus after the game was less about the score. In his first preseason as Dallas head coach, he has stressed discipline in every phase. The Cowboys were charged with 11 penalties against the Rams.
