Packers' Jayden Reed sparks concern with worrisome injury update after walking boot sighting

The Packers didn't have that great of a preseason opener. WR Jayden Reed was in a walking boot before the game and he gave a unpleasant update following the game.

The Green Bay Packers didn’t exactly impress fans during their preseason opener on Saturday night. This season has the potential to be a great one—provided quarterback Jordan Love performs well. If he doesn’t, things might not go as smoothly.

“It’s Jordan Love time. Only one offensive player on the roster (two-time Pro Bowl guard Elgton Jenkins), and three players in total, predate the quarterback’s time with the team. He’s on a top-of-market deal, so the onus is on him to start lifting his teammates rather than the other way around. The roster’s still solid, but competitions at left tackle and receiver will help set the course for how far the team can go, and Love’s work through any bumps at those spots will be key,” SI’s Albert Breer wrote.

During training camp, wide receiver Jayden Reed suffered a foot injury—one that Packers head coach Matt LaFleur suggested could have been caused by his cleats.

“LaFleur said Jayden Reed dropped out of practice yesterday because of a foot issue. Blamed it on his cleats, actually,” The Athletic’s Matthew Schneidman posted.

While the injury initially didn’t seem serious, Reed was seen walking onto the field in a boot before Saturday's game.

“LaFleur said that the boot was unrelated to the pre-existing toe injury Reed had coming into training camp. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a source informed him that Reed was dealing with a sprained foot,” CBS Sports’ Brent Brookhouse wrote.

During media availability, Reed didn’t offer much clarity—his update came across as more concerning than reassuring.

“I don’t wanna be wrong about anything. So I ain’t gonna be the one to say,” Reed told the media.

Reed is a key figure in the Packers’ wide receiver group, so potentially losing him for any period of time is not a good sign. If the injury ends up lingering, expect rookie Matthew Golden to draw serious attention from Love early on. For now, Reed’s vague comments may cause fans to brace for the worst—at least until a more definitive update is provided.
