Browns’ Shedeur Sanders just needed opportunity to be legendary

Shedeur Sanders took advantage of the opportunity the Cleveland Browns gave him on Friday night in his preseason debut.

From the moment Shedeur Sanders took the field in his preseason debut, he looked a lot more polished than anyone could’ve expected from a fifth-round rookie.

As Mary Kay Cabot pointed out, he just needed that opportunity to show he’s got that legendary potential, and that’s exactly what he did. Sanders threw two touchdowns and showed a really calm, almost veteran-like presence out there.

On one standout bootleg play, instead of scrambling or making a rushed decision, he recognized that there was no pressure, set his feet, and delivered a perfect throw right between two Panthers defenders.

It was the kind of poise that should get Browns fans excited and should definitely have coach Kevin Stefanski rethinking things.

Because here’s the reality: Sanders wasn’t getting first-team reps before this.

Now, after a performance like that, Stefanski’s kind of in a put-up-or-shut-up spot. Especially when this entire situation looked like the head coach was setting Sanders up to fail.

Even guys like LeSean McCoy have said they want to see Sanders or Dillon Gabriel out there instead of veterans. The Browns are at a rebuilding point, and Sanders just proved he deserves a real shot.

He might not start Week 1, and that’s fine. But now he’s earned the right to get those first-team reps and show what he can do.

It’s on the Browns to give him that shot now.
