With his chance to be an NFL starter on the line, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was hoping to make a major leap in Year 3. However, his potential bounce-back season may be over before it even gets started due to an injury he suffered in Thursday's preseason game.

With the Colts taking on the Baltimore Ravens to open up their respective preseasons, Richardson attempted just three passes before he saw his day come to an end.

In the first quarter with 7:34 remaining, Richardson dropped back for a pass and was a sitting duck before Ravens linebacker David Ojabo came flying in to record the sack.

The hit resulted in a finger injury for Richardson, prompting fans online to blast his offensive line and running back for not picking up Ojabo.

"That's on the RB," said one fan.

"Don’t play your QB behind a backup o line," wrote another.

"Blocking in mid-season form," joked a third

"How do you let him go untouched," questioned another.

As reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the injury prevented Richardson from returning for the rest of the game.

While it's easy to blame the offensive line, setting up the right protection is also a pivotal aspect of being a quarterback, so Richardson is also to blame for the lapse.

In terms of what this means for his chance as a starter, Richardson was already on thin ice due to his struggles last season. So, his inability to play certainly won't help him win the quarterback battle with Jones.
