Ray Davis is a man of many talents. As Kentucky fans learned in 2023, he’s not just a physical runner. He can break a tackle and explode for a 75-yard touchdown.
During his rookie campaign, Buffalo Bills fans learned he’s pretty good at catching passes, too. In addition to his three rushing touchdowns, he also had three receiving touchdowns. That’s not the only way he can put points on the board.
Throughout training camp, Bills’ kicker Tyler Bass has dealt with a lingering muscle injury that’s forced him to spend time on the sidelines. Buffalo isn’t rushing to find a permanent replacement. Instead, they’ve looked in-house to find a competent kicker.
Ray Davis kicked field goals in high school. He insisted to the coaching staff that he could step up in a pinch. He proved that during a practice last week.
When the Bills made their preseason debut on Saturday, Davis was ready to deliver. The running back lined up to kick an extra point and buried the PAT. It’s not just that he made it, he looked the part, giving more than enough arc for it to soar over the defense and through the uprights.
Davis didn’t see too much more action during his preseason debut. With James Cook holding-in to get a new contract, he’s currently Buffalo’s top running back. They can’t be too risky with Mr. Davis. He picked up seven yards on only four carries as the Bills fell to the Giants.
As for the rest of the Kentucky Bills, Maxwell Hairston remains sidelined after suffering a knee injury earlier in camp. Deone Walker got in the game and batted down a ball to record a pass deflection.
Prepare to see more of this when you tune into HBO’s Hard Knocks this week.
