Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has not been shy about sharing her reaction to blockbuster moves at the WNBA trade deadline — but her latest was more personal.

Reese, a 2025 WNBA All-Star, is averaging 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game in her second season with the Sky.

She is currently battling a back injury that has caused her to miss the last three games. Coach Tyler Marsh said there is currently no timetable for her return, with Chicago (8-21) hosting the Atlanta Dream (18-11) on Thursday.

Thursday is also the WNBA trade deadline, and speculation is swirling on social media about Reese's future after her public comment to All-Star guard Brittney Sykes, who was traded to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday.

Angel Reese's Reaction to "Liberating" Brittney Sykes Trade

Sykes made an eye-opening farewell post to the Washington Mystics, who dealt her to Seattle for Alysha Clark and a 2026 first-round draft pick before the trade deadline.

She had plenty of nice words for the team, but the last line stood out: "Ps: making decisions for yourself is a hell of a liberating feeling."

Seeing Sykes take ownership of her move from a rebuilding Washington team to a possible 2025 title contender in Seattle resonated with Reese.

"heavy on the PS," Reese emphasized in the comments. "love you slimskiiii."

Reese and Sykes played together in Unrivaled for Rose BC, winning the 3-on-3 league's inaugural title earlier this year. Reese also shared her excitement for Sykes immediately after the trade on Tuesday, but this follow-up message caused more of a stir on social media.

Speculation About Angel Reese's Future With Chicago Sky

"Angel wants OUT of Chicago," wrote a user on X, who sparked a conversation by posting a screenshot of Reese's comment.

"So badly," said a popular reply. "Once that rookie contract is over she is GONE."

The similarities between Sykes' situation with the rebuilding Mystics and Reese's with the embattled Sky are apparent, but Reese is unlikely to leave now for a contender like her Unrivaled teammate did.

Reese is in the second year of her four-year, $324,383 rookie contract. Chicago has little incentive to trade her at the 2025 trade deadline since it is such a team-friendly deal.

That did not stop the speculation from fans, who stated their cases for the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx to try to bring in the two-time All-Star.

Others poured cold water on the rumors, pointing out the vagueness of her comment, which may have had nothing to do with her own situation with the Sky.

"Or what if…she’s just supporting her friend’s decisions?" suggested a response. "This might literally have nothing to do with her situation."

With Chicago looking at a third straight sub-.500 season and a second year with no playoffs, the dialogue about their star forward's future will not stop any time soon.
